Steps

  1. Open a new chat in Claude (claude.ai) and upload the signed scope of work or contract (PDF is fine). To try it first, use sample-scope-of-work.pdf.
  2. Paste the prompt below, then replace "[paste it here]" with the client's email. To try it, use sample-client-email.txt.
  3. Send it. Check each "exact line" against the contract yourself: Claude can misread a clause, and a wrong "in scope" costs you money.
  4. Fill in every [PRICE] from your own rate card, and edit the reply into your voice.
  5. Send the reply yourself. For the out-of-scope items, write the change order before any work starts.

Before you upload a real contract, check your company's rules on putting client documents into an AI tool.

The prompt

The prompt
I've uploaded our signed scope of work and pasted the client's latest email below.

Start with how many asks are in scope, out of scope, and unclear.
Then, for each ask:
- In scope, out of scope, or unclear.
- The exact line from the scope that decides it.

Then draft a friendly reply that:
- Says yes to what's in scope.
- Offers to quote a change order for what's out.
- Asks one clear question about anything unclear.
Leave prices as [PRICE]. Don't promise any dates.
