Steps
- Open a new chat in Claude (claude.ai). No setup, no integrations.
- Upload one client's numbers for the month: a spreadsheet or CSV with this month, last month, the change, and a notes column for anything you know happened (a new ad, a site change, a tracking problem). The notes column is what makes the "why" part honest. To try it first, use
sample-monthly-numbers.csv. - Paste the prompt below. Replace the last line with last month's commentary for the same client, so Claude copies your tone. To try it, use
sample-last-month-commentary.txt. - Send it. Answer the questions at the end of the reply, fix the draft, and remove every [SUGGESTION] tag you keep.
- Check every number in the draft against your file before it goes to the client.
Before you upload real client numbers, check your company's rules on putting client data into an AI tool.
The prompt
Write this month's commentary for my client's report. The numbers are in the file. My last commentary is pasted below. Copy its tone and length, not its facts.
Three short parts:
1. What happened: the two or three changes that matter most to their business.
2. Why: only reasons found in the notes. No reason in the notes? Say so.
3. What's next: suggest one or two steps, marked [SUGGESTION].
Use only numbers from the file, exactly as written. No new math. No jargon.
Then, separately, list questions I should answer before this goes out.
